The Great Flood of Summer 2010

While Mom was visiting, we headed to Ft. Monroe for an afternoon of museums, bowling, music, and picnics.  We got a very different kind of day.  After speeding through the Casemate Museum in 15 minutes, we headed to the bowling alley to pass time until the weekly TRADOC Band concert.  During our fun and games it started to rain and rain, and rain.  An enormous rainstorm hit that caused flooding throughout the city.  The concert was cancelled of course and getting home was touch and go.  When we finally reached our street this was the sight that greeted us:

We parked the car around the corner and waded to the house.  I was very grateful when the rain stopped and the water receded.  I couldn’t believe it when a few hours later everything was completely dry and there was not trace of it flooding.
