We were able to spend the afternoon in Downtown Charleston. It is such a beautiful city! We walked down Rainbow Row and enjoyed visiting the Old Exchange and Provost. We went down to the Battery and walked around. It felt wonderful to have the sea breeze on my face and to watch the sailboats go by.
We continued our museum tour today. We were able to get to quite a few places: Drayton Hall, The Magazine, The Old Slave Mart Museum, and the Hayward-Washington House. I learned a lot about architecture and much more! While at Drayton Hall Dan made a new friend.
Today we purchased Museum Mile Passes, which gave us access to 13 museums and historical homes. We toured the Children’s Museum of the Low Country, Charleston Museum, Aiken-Rhett House, and the Joseph Manigault house. It was a great time! I enjoyed learning a lot about Charleston’s history and to view these magnificent homes! I was also excited to see a little red in the leaves! Fall is my favorite time of year and I just love seeing the beginning of color!
Looking for a freshwater fishing hole is not so easy in Charleston, most bodies of water are saltwater. After driving around for a few hours, we finally headed to a place called Short Stay, which is a military campground. We found a small catch and release pond so the kids could cast a line. It was a cool, windy day and we were able to get a few bites. One of the last things that was pulled in was a small turtle. The hook was stuck in his lip and Hiram felt so bad! He said “Sorry, turtle! I was fish-ing not turtle-ing!”
